Verified Reviewer |Charging for service I didn't authorize
I found a phone number (another person upset with the company posted on 2/25/2026 direct phone to contact the company) by 2/27/2026. Ancestry had already disconnected that number.
A few months ago, Ancestry started charging me for pro tools for an inactive membership. I contacted them and asked, 'What is going on?' They said they had no record of my being charged. I said I saw it on my credit card statement, called Capital One, and they suggested getting a new card number, which I did, but I never gave that number to Ancestry. Again, the next month, they added a charge.
I called the credit card company, and they suggested a new card and not activating the card until ready to use. Okay. What a surprise this month; somehow, on an inactive card, there is the monthly Ancestry charge, and the person who doesn't seem to understand English from the U.S.
card company keeps asking why I don't want to activate my card??? Is everyone a moron?
- Years ago it was worth it
- Without active paid membership the research is unavailable to customer
User's recommendation: use a disposable credit card that you buy with a set amount for this company!
I need a box to return my sample
Tried calling customer service several times with no luck, no answer, hung up on. What a great service!
User's recommendation: Don't try calling customer service!
Trying to Contact them re subscriptions
I noticed two payments had been removed from my bank account. The bank is unable to help. There is no real way to contact Ancestry.com other than via an AI thing hence questions can not be answered.
Not to be deterred I have written directly to all the named directors and hopefully they will resolve the issue- not holding my breath.
User's recommendation: Lots of other good ancestry sites out there.

Now they want $15.00 for a processing fee when they never provided the service. Not my fault!
