My checking account was suddenly hit for $149 on 10/9/14 by this Ancestry.com. After research, they said that I established an account with them on 9/23/13.

I never established an account with them. If I had, why would they not have started to take the monthly fees of $34.99/mo as of 10/23/13; not waiting for over a year. This $149 was to be a recurring amount each month after 10/9/14.

I cancelled this within the 14 day free trial period as I could not afford their monthly fees. They don't have my new address or email address since 9/23/13??

Reason of review: Not as described/ advertised.

Monetary Loss: $149.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Ancestry Cons: Scam they used on me.

Location: Green Valley, Arizona

This just happened to me and Iโ€™m very angry!! How dare them.

I thought this was a reputable company !

Now Iโ€™m considering them to be shady AF! Take a hike Ancestry!

I thought I was getting a fourteen day free trial through ancestry.com but it was a major rip off. I cancelled on the thirteenth day just to be sure and they charged me a $35.00 fee!!!!

What choice do you have? It's either pay the fee or be charged monthly for something you don't use.

I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. I am thoroughly disgusted.

There is something in your complaint that doesn't sound right. I have been a member of Ancestry.com for about five years.

I get billed $100.00, every six months and there are times when I can't afford that, and have to cancel membership for awhile, and they have always been real good about canceling when I tell them too. I do pay be credit card. I want to emphasize I have never had problems with them. the times that I have had to cancel, I have done it right away, I don't wait until almost the time to cancel is up.

They always notify me that they will cancel the membership.

They don't need you new address or email address in order to debit your checking account.
